Animal Protection Act

The Animal Protection Act prohibits a person from causing an animal to be in distress, and prohibits owners and caregivers from allowing an animal to remain in distress. The Act enables peace officers and police officers to remove animals from distressful situations, to respond to situations involving abandoned animals, and to hold animal owners and caregivers to animal care duties defined in the Act. Penalties for contravention of the Act are also documented.
